BeCAUSE Charity Event March 11, 2017

March 11, 2017 at St. Michael's College in Colchester, Vermont

The beCAUSE Craft Show was created so that our local community could reach out and help many organizations that are in need through the efforts of one event, while supporting the business of local vendors.
March 11th will mark the eleventh year the show has run and it just keeps growing. The unique quality about beCAUSE is that every purchase made at the show directly supports a charity or non-profit organization. The show has raised close to $122,000 collectively in the past 10 years and this year promises to be even more successful, with more vendors attending. There will be over 100 Vermont handcrafters selling their wares, and all of them have committed to donating 50%-100% of their profits to a charity of their choice. Please join us on March 11, 2017 at St. Michael's College in Colchester.

Fall and Winter Events Schedule

Feathers and Fur Exhibition: Portraits of Field, Forest & Farm

is scheduled to open at 12 Noon on Saturday, October 3, 2015 and run through the end of April 2016. The exhibit is made possible by the Springfield Regional Development Corporation. The Great Hall is a participant in the Statewide Open Studio Weekend (October 3-4) and will be open both Saturday and Sunday from 11-4p. Regular viewing hours are 9-5p, Monday through Friday.

Artists featured include Richard CoFrancesco, Springfield, VT; Donna Ellery, McIndoe Falls, VT; Rick Hearn, Chester, VT; Lesley Heathcote, Brattleboro, VT; Jennifer Maharry, Culver City, CA; Christine Mix, Manchester Center, VT; Robin Truelove Stronk, Westmoreland, NH; Jamie Townsend, Springfield, VT and Adelaide Tyrol, Plainfield, VT.

Nina Jamison, Director of Exhibition says: “One of the goals of this new exhibit is to renew a sense of wonder and awareness for animals and nature. Inspired by their subjects and the natural world, the nine artists in Feather & Fur celebrate the beauty, intelligence and grace of animals and birds. The portraits convey a poetry and beauty that are part of the animal’s story. Some of the portraits are colorful, sweet and charming, even magical. Artist and art director, Adelaide Tyrol's 6’ by10’ canvass present a different perspective and suggest the regal yet darker side of nature.“

At the Saturday opening to meet the artists, VINS and artist Christine Mix will present live demonstrations. Beginning at 12:30 p.m. Christine Mix will demonstrate how to draw animals. This will be followed by a presentation by Vermont Institute of Natural Science (VINS) with an up close and personal encounter with live hawks and an owl. Cider and cider donuts along with seasonal faire will be served.

Nina Jamison, co-curated the show with Carolyn Enz Hack, an artist from Thetford Center whose work has been exhibited nationally. Her sculptures have also been exhibited in two different shows in the Great Hall – the inaugural show, Emergence, as well as in Fibrations.

Following a multi-million dollar renovation, Historic Fellows Gear Shaper on the Black River in Springfield, VT is now known as One Hundred River Street, featuring a medical center, retail stores, a café, and the soaring venue for public art—The Great Hall.

Visitors should use Pearl Street entrance only for October 3 and 4. The exhibits at the Great Hall are sponsored by Springfield Regional Development Corporation.
